There are so many different social media platforms out there that can be used to help your business grow.  Being involved with them can give you more opportunities to find customers and make worthwhile business connections.  As wonderful as social media is, you want to make sure that you use it correctly and that you use the ones that work for your business.

One of these forms of social media is Pinterest.  Pinterest has become one of the fastest growing social media platforms.  It is popular with men, women, children, businesses, communities, churches, etc.

What is Pinterest?

Pinterest is an image bookmarking site.  It helps different communities and people to connect through similar interests.

Pinterest allows you to “pin” images to a board on your account.  Your board can range from photos of celebrities to ideas for decorating a room or even books to read.

How can my business use it?

Pinterest gives businesses the opportunity to share images of their products and services.  Before jumping in, you need to determine if you have the right company for promoting yourself this way.

You are able to post your own images.  As a photographer or chef, you could show potential customers what you provide or highlight work you have done previously.  If you are a consulting company, you might have to get creative with your images.

You just want to be careful not to put a lot of time and effort into this if it’s not the right kind of advertising for you.

How will it get me more customers?

When you set up your account, you are able to create various boards.  Each board is a different topic.  Within the board is where you post your images, or pins.  Your pins link back to your website or blog, giving you more traffic and helping with SEO.

Every pin also has a comment box below it, allowing for people to talk about the image.  The comments people leave can help you make improvements to your products or services and will also let you know what it is people like about them.

Should I join the Pinterest movement?

Before you get started on your account, have a plan.  Know which direction you want to go in.  Have a goal of what you want Pinterest to help you accomplish.  Don’t just join because everyone else is.  If you can’t find a reason to do it, then don’t waste time or money on it.  Wait until you figure something out.

Once you have a plan and a goal in mind, run with it.  Pinterest is an amazing business tool that once you figure out the best way to use can help your business immensely.
