Internet Connections

Finding the right ISP takes a fair amount of work

There are several different internet connection options available to entrepreneurs. The first one that warrants discussion is dial-up connection, which is usually the most economic and accessible option. All you need for dial-up is a standard modem and phone line. The modem connects to the phone line and your computer “dials” your Internet Service Provider (ISP), which then connects to your computer. While the process is simple, it is important to note that dial-up connections are quite slow and have limited capabilities compared to other connection options.

Broadband is another popular type of internet connection. It’s more robust than dial-up, ranging from 25 times to 100 times faster, depending on the specific type. Because of this, it’s often referred to as “high speed internet.” There are varying definitions of broadband, but generally, to qualify as a broadband connection, it must have a bitrate of at least 256 kbit/s (stands for thousands of bits per second).

One particular type of broadband that is popular is cable connection. One of the fastest methods available, it also benefits from the fact that it is always available and doesn’t require a connection process. Many cable companies offer bundled deals that give you the choice of different speed and bandwidth options to suit your needs. Home-based entrepreneurs often find this is a great way to go because of the speed and power it presents.

Because each home and office have their own unique needs, it’s important for entrepreneurs to study the available options before making a decision. Once a favorable connection type has been identified, it is still important to find the best provider. It is often advisable to find an ISP that offers package deals, such as phone or cable. There are many excellent options out there, you just need to take the time to find them.
