A Clean Mouse is a Happy Mouse

Professional Marketing International provides mouse maintenance tips

Optical mice have largely replaced the mechanical ball mice that once dominated American homes and offices. These modern mice are more sensitive and can operate on just about any kind of surface. Another advantage is that there is no internal cleaning required, whereas mechanical ball mice were like miniature vacuum cleaners, picking up all the dust and debris on your desk. The maintenance is much easier with optical mice. Here are some cleaning tips from Professional Marketing International to help you keep them running smooth.

While optical mice don’t pick up as much dust as mechanical ball mice, they still get dirty over time, sometimes resulting in erratic cursor control. To remedy this problem, first disconnect your mouse from the back of your computer. Turn the mouse over and examine the pads on the bottom. These are usually the first place that dust gathers. To clean the pads, you can use your fingernail or a penny to gently rub them clean. Never use a sharp or bladed object because they may permanently damage the pads. Another technique is to moisten the pads with water and then place the mouse on a sheet of paper. Pressing down with moderate pressure, drag the mouse across the paper. Repeat this 4-5 times to clean the pads.

If it has been a long time since you last cleaned your mouse, it may require a more thorough cleaning than just the pads. After disconnecting it, dampen a cloth with rubbing alcohol and gently clean the entire exterior of the mouse. Use particular care around the sensor area. If the sensor appears to be dirty, it can be cleaned with a plain cotton swab. Caring for your mouse in this way helps to keep it running smooth. If you continue to clean it whenever necessary, your optical mouse will give you years of excellent performance. A clean mouse is truly a happy mouse.

Computer Maintenance and Cleaning Tips from PMI Education

Computer cleaning tips from Professional Marketing International

There are host of issues that can cause your computer to run slower. For entrepreneurs, lost computer time can have a serious effect on their efficiency and revenue. Many computer issues are related to accumulated and unnecessary data that can easily be erased. Even if you haven’t noticed your computer running slower, regularly deleting these “fluff” files is the equivalent of taking out the trash. It will free up storage space and help your computer run more smoothly.

Here are four basic cleanup techniques that can help your computer. Because each browser has its own interface, PMI Education recommends that you consult your Help section to learn how to use these strategies on your unique system.

Clear Your Browser Cache: You browser automatically stores copies of the web pages you visit so it can load these pages faster the next time you them. Although it can speed up browsing, these temporary files take up valuable hard disk storage space. Clear your cache periodically to free up crucial space.

Delete Unused Programs: One of the best ways to maintain your computer and free up storage space is to delete unnecessary programs. Users often install programs only to forget about them or upgrade to another program later. These old programs take up space, consume resources and can slow down your computer.

*To remove programs from Windows, Click Start, then click Control Panel. In Category View, click Add or Remove Programs, then click Remove a Program. Examine the programs on the list. For any program you no longer need, click Change/Remove and follow the prompts to uninstall it.

Remove Unused Windows Components: If there are elements of Windows that you don’t use, delete these as well. Like unused programs, they take up space and there is no reason to keep them on your computer. If you change your mind later, you can always reinstall them.

Delete System Restore Data: Windows XP saves a “snapshot” of your PC at various points in time so that if you experience problems, you can revert back to previous setups if you experience system problems. This data takes up quite a bit of space, so you can delete older snapshots if you are confident you don’t need them.
